THINGS will feel a little different for Clinton Wells this weekend.  The South Barwon stalwart will be playing his 300th game but unlike most outings in a stellar career boasting an equal-league record of eight premierships, this Saturday’s match is no walkover.

In fact, South Barwon probably starts as underdog against the higher-ranked St Joseph’s.

Wells, who booted his 600th club goal earlier this year and whose triple century is thought to be the first since the GFL formed in 1979, admitted it was all unfamiliar territory.

“It has been creeping up,” he said. “But it’s going to be a challenge for us. We haven’t been in this situation for a long while.”

To mark the occasion, Wells will be the subject of a lighthearted question-answer session after training on Thursday night and after the game on Saturday the club will host “quiet drinks” for the man who made his senior debut at South Barwon in 1998

“I’m pretty excited,” he said.

“I knew it was coming.

“But I want to keep it pretty low-key.”

Wells, who earlier this year admitted he was addicted to the winning feeling, hopes his side can get up this weekend.

Not for his occasion, but for the Swans’ finals potential.

South Barwon has won four and drawn two games this season.

“It’s different,” Wells said.

“It’s good to see the kids coming through, it’s where the future of the club is.

“The competition is wide open and the top three is nowhere near decided.”

The game starts at 2.10pm at Drew Reserve.
