northshoreGeelong Advertiser |NORTH Shore has landed its first major recruiting coup of the pre-season, signing former Geelong and Western Bulldogs player Nathan Djerrkura for 2015.

The Seagulls announced Djerrkura’s capture today and are hopeful he will return to Geelong from Gove Peninsula before their first pre-season match.

“It’s really exciting. It shows as a football club what we are able to achieve through our networks and our coaching staff,” Davenport said.

“He is going to be a real key piece in the direction we are heading and he is a great guy first and foremost and then his footy ability will add to the group as well.

“He’s going to make the trip down but the weather will dictate when he gets here. I think he wants to get back by the end of next week but he will take his time driving down.”

Davenport said Djerrkura would play mostly in the midfield, but would also give North Shore a damaging option in attack.

“There will no doubt be opportunities through midfield but he can pinch hit forward as well,” he said.

“We will chat further from a footy perspective when he gets down to training.”

Djerrkura played 25 senior games between the Cats and Dogs before retiring at the end of 2012.

He was first taken by Geelong with pick 25 in the national draft.

After 10 years in Victoria, Djerrkura moved back to the Gove Peninsula in Arnhem Land.

Davenport said the speedster had been keeping fit since retiring and would be ready to play Round 1.

“He has been doing some triathlete training and lots of long distance endurance stuff so he is going to be aerobically very fit. But he has always been quick and powerful,” Davenport said.
