AFL Vic BarwonGeelong Advertiser | ONE of the biggest shake-ups in local footy history will be revealed tonight when AFL Barwon unveils its long-awaited restructure plans.

The AFL Barwon commission will tonight present its recommendations to all GFL, BFL and GDFL clubs at a meeting at Elderslie Reserve from 6.30pm.

Clubs then have a month to consider the blueprint before on open forum is held on April 7 at Grovedale Secondary College for clubs to debate the recommendations.

“It will definitely shape footy in this region and put a structure in place for a long time, which will allow for growth in all competitions,” AFL Barwon region manager Lee Hartman said last night.

Hartman would not speculate on any of the recommendations to be presented tonight.

But two major questions look set to be answered — the ongoing divisional structure and the subsequent movement between leagues.

“It’s only recommendations at this stage, there will be no debate (tonight) about the recommendations, it’s really only a presentation so clubs can take it back to their members and stakeholders,” Hartman said.

“Then, whatever feedback we get from the clubs, the commission will consider all of that before making the final decision on the structure of the competitions.”
