barwon headsGeelong Advertiser | BARWON Heads has emerged from a pre-season battered by injuries, confident it will be close to full strength in Saturday’s season opener against Anglesea.

Matt Dyer (knee), Dylan Holland (ankle) and Jason Kerby (back) are all set to make the Round 1 starting line after battling through interrupted summers.

Only spearhead Daniel Hovey and midfielder Chris Martin won’t play when the Seagulls take to the field for the first time under new coaches James Garvey and Adam Wiseman.

“I think most of the guys who have missed a fair chunk of pre-season have aimed themselves for Round 1,” Garvey said.Hovey, who has booted 240 goals in the past three seasons, only recently resumed light training after having keyhole surgery in January for appendicitis.

He is also battling osteitis pubis and is still about a month away from playing, let alone showing the dominance he has over recent seasons charging out of the goal square.

“He’s not completely at rock bottom but is now slowly trying to increase (his training) and making sure he recovers,” Garvey said.
