colacGeelong Advertiser | COLAC reacted to some “home truths” at half-time to run away to a 32-point win over a new-look Geelong West-St Peter’s outfit in the GFL season opener yesterday.

After club stalwart Kevin McGuane unfurled their maiden GFL premiership flag, the Tigers were wasteful early with the aid of the breeze, kicking 2.10 in the first quarter, and led by just 11 points at the main break.

But the reigning premier flexed their considerable muscle in the third quarter with a burst of five quick goals to put the contest to bed.

“Our goal-kicking was horrible early and sometimes kicking all those behinds will cost you matches which is what it looked like at halftime,” Colac coach Paul Lynch said.

“I thought our first quarter was very good even though we kicked 2.10 but I was disappointed after our second quarter when our tackling pressure and intensity dropped off.

“I guess at halftime they were able to react to some home truths.”
