merrivaleThe Standard | A JET Dowie-inspired Merrivale has kick-started its premiership defence by dismantling Old Collegians in front of a bumper Good Friday crowd.

The Tigers conceded just two goals after half-time to turn a one-point deficit into a 15.6 (96) to 7.9 (51) triumph at Merrivale Recreation Reserve yesterday.

Dowie booted seven majors to be the dominant figure on the ground. But the full-forward was well supported by his teammates the longer the match wore on.

Rhys Raymond finished with three and was ever-present, while onballers Al Porter, James Kelly and Josh Sobey gradually got on top.

The Tigers’ defenders were also resilient and represented one of the main differences between the combatants.
