timboonThe Standard | A MOMENTUM shift nearing half-time provided winning impetus for Timboon Demons on Saturday.

The Demons kicked the final two goals of the second quarter to edge away from Russells Creek in their round one battle at Timboon Recreation Reserve.

They slotted 12 goals after the main change to run out 20.14 (134) to 13.10 (88) winners.

Timboon Demons co-coach Matthew Whitehead said his side gradually worked its way on top after an indifferent start.

The Demons wore black armbands to honour late teammate Andrew Blake, who died in a car accident in January.

The numbers 35 and 210 representing his guernsey and games tally featured on the scoreboard.

“It was pretty emotional for our side with the lead-up to it and they (Creek) got a jump on us,” Whitehead said.
