Weekly Times | IT SEEMS a media curse has been cast by this football section. The Weekly Times wants to apologise to both the Sunraysia league’s Merbein and Alberton league’s Stony Creek, after it inadvertently put the mozz on both clubs at the weekend.
Last week’s editioncovered the homecoming of Merbein product Colin Sylvia, only for the former AFL player to suffer a dislocated shoulder in the first half of the Round 7 match on Saturday.
Merbein president Toney Hurley said Sylvia returned to the field late in the second quarter after he “punched” his shoulder back into place without the assistance of trainers”.
To add insult to injury, the Magpies endured a 53-point defeat at the hands of the top-of-the-table Imperials.
Hurley said Sylvia would be fit to play against Wentworth in Round 9 — the next game set aside for his stint with the club.
Meanwhile, Stony Creek’s quest to break the club’s longest winning streak of 10 games came to a grim end as Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside upset the Lions by two points.
It was the Allies’ second win for the season.
