nullawilWeekly Times |THE beauty of football is nothing is guaranteed, so every now and again comes a result that will raise a few eyebrows.

Golden Rivers Football League club Hay was brought crashing back to earth with a 78-point loss against Nullawil on Saturday.

Hay went into the match on top of the ladder with a win-loss record of 5-1, whereas Nullawil was fifth at 3-3.

But the Lions did not score a goal after quarter-time when they were five points behind, and the Maroons have moved into fourth, a game behind now third-placed Hay, after the 16.6 (102) to 3.6 (24) result.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised (with our performance),” Hay coach Simon Bunyan said.

In the Tallangatta and District league Chiltern, which began the match with a 4-4 record, became the first team to defeat Tallangatta this season.

Tallangatta finished on the bottom last year.
