But if the players’ singing voices were a bit rusty last week there was no excuse on Saturday.

The Tigers went back-to-back in the Hampden Football League’s Round 9 with a thumping 57-point win against Cobden.

As a result, Portland jumped from 10th to seventh, and only percentage separates it and the bottom three sides — South Warrnambool, Cobden and Hamilton Kangaroos.

South Warrnambool also scored its second win of the season by a goal against the Kangaroos, making it two wins from the past three rounds.

Then there is Camperdown, which has lost its past five matches — on Saturday it lost to reigning premier Koroit by 98 points — after kicking off the season with four straight wins.

But one match everyone in the league is sure to be talking about is Warrnambool’s narrow escape against North Warrnambool Eagles.

Warrnambool, which has been premier or runner-up the past seven years, remained unbeaten this season by holding on to a one-point victory.
