morwellWeekly Times |FORMER  Morwell coach Dean Warren and his assistant, Nick Johnstone, have launched legal action against their old club.

Warren was sacked after Round 2 of the Gippsland Football League in April and the pair now plan to take the club and league to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on July 14.

Warren said they were seeking coaching payments from Morwell, and to “make sure the administration of clubs is done properly”.

The pair also included the AFL in their suits, but Warren said they met with AFL representatives last week and had resolved the matter.

Representatives from the league declined to comment and Morwell president Wade Presley could not be contacted.

Morwell has announced the appointment of Joel Soutar as coach for next season.

Meanwhile all seven senior leagues in Gippsland will participate in the Mental Health Round on July 11, except for the North Gippsland league matches hosted by Sale City and Woodside, who will play it this weekend due to a split round.

The home senior football and netball teams will wear light blue football socks and netball bibs to raise awareness.

AFL champion and founder of The Sunrise Foundation Wayne Schwass is the round’s ambassador.
