mindflWeekly Times | GLENTHOMPSON Dunkeld has continued to make its case for a finals place in the Mininera and District Football League with a 62-point win against Caramut.

The Swans had no answers for the visitors after half-time and the Rams comfortably won their fourth game in a row and seventh for the season, 16.15 (111) to 7.7 (49).

Glenthompson Dunkeld led by a goal at quarter-time, but an inaccurate second term in front of goal left the door open for Caramut to hit the front briefly that quarter.

After slowly closing the gap with behinds, the Rams hit the front again with a goal from captain Chris McLeod, beginning a run of six unanswered goals which established an unassailable lead.

Tim Cogger and Jamie Ferguson kicked four goals apiece for the Rams and the pair, along with defender Guy Sevior, earned the praise of coach Bernie Porter post-match.

Caramut playing coach Damian Jones finished with three goals and captain Adam Lehmann was a standout.

Porter already had eyes on next week’s match against Wickliffe Lake Bolac to try to cement a place in the competition’s top five.

“It’s always important to win away, and to win like that was good in the end,” he said.

“It was a slow first half, but we really put the foot down in the second half and the boys played well.”

Porter described the second quarter as “frustrating”.

“I said to them at half-time, bad kicking is bad football, and we always had the upper hand, but they’re a tough side to shrug off,” he said.

“After half-time we did that and it was a good response from our guys.”
