Weekly Times |MORNINGTON Peninsula Nepean Football League clubs will vote tonight on making the AFL South East commission its caretaker board.
The MPNFL board announced its resignation last week, after clubs in the Peninsula and Nepean leagues previously submitted votes of no confidence.
AFL South East region general manager Jeremy Bourke said the clubs would vote today to formally make the AFL South East commission the caretaker board.
AFL South East officials plan to conduct a review into the leagues’ governance and administration, to be completed by October.
“Basically the motion (to be voted on tonight) will be what the demands were by the clubs in the ‘no confidence’ motion,” Bourke said.
“In order for that to be official, they need to do that through a special general meeting.
“The clubs sought the immediate resignation from the board and a series of reviews to be conducted by AFL South East, so this special general meeting is just the formality around that process.”
Bourke said once the review was conducted they could start to seek potential board members so the clubs could ratify those people into the new positions at the annual general meeting at the end of the year.
“We’re on a short time frame but we’re pretty confident we can get done what needs to be in that time frame which will provide as little disruption to the incoming season as possible,” Bourke said.
He also confirmed an investigation had been requested by the South East Football League following a brawl after the match between Cranbourne and Narre Warren.
“We would prefer it if this sort of thing didn’t happen,” Cranbourne president Shane Baker said.
“It’s not in the spirit of the game — particularly after the week of tragedy we’ve had with Phil Walsh’s death.”
Narre Warren representatives declined to comment. Cranbourne won the match 9.6 (60) to 6.9 (45).
