hume thumbWeekly Times |HENTY’S senior football team is yet to hear the final siren this month. The Swampies’ Round 13 match against Lockhart in the Hume Football League was abandoned at three-quarter time on Saturday due to lightning strikes nearby.

“After the third quarter they were just about to go out and we got this huge thunder storm that had been rolling in,” Henty secretary Nathan Scholz said.

“It was hailing pretty well and there was a fair bit of lightning and the umpires decided to bring everyone off the ground.

“We decided between the two clubs and the field umpires to call it off, for player safety more than anything.”

Henty was awarded the win based on the scores at the time, 5.7 (37) to 2.8 (20), but a week earlier it was unlucky on two counts.

Its Round 12 match against Murray Magpies was called off in the final quarter after Swampie Brent Piltz sustained a broken leg.

The match was abandoned due to the time that lapsed while they waited for an ambulance, and the Magpies, who were ahead by a point, were awarded the win, 11.6 (72) to 10.11 (71).

Henty is fourth on the Hume league ladder with eight wins and will host Osborne on Saturday.
