Weekly Times | WOOMELANG — Lascelles’ proposed move to the Golden Rivers league is far from certain, with the club reconsidering all viable “scenarios”.
Despite the Mallee league club announcing last month it had decided to pursue a move to the Golden Rivers league, president Shane Michael this week said Cats members and supporters would meet to discuss their options.
Michael said Woomelang-Lascelles would work through “five or six different scenarios” regarding what direction it would take next season during a public meeting, which was held on Monday night.
AFL Wimmera Mallee Region general manager Bruce Petering was not aware the club was planning an information night to reassess its preference when contacted by The Weekly Times.
Petering played down the suggestion the Cats may be getting cold feet about the move to Golden Rivers, believing that was still their “ultimate goal”.
The Mallee league will disband at season’s end as per last month’s final North West Structural Review recommendations.
The review panel’s preference was for Woomelang-Lascelles to merge with Mallee league club Sea Lake-Nandaly.
The Tigers are pursuing a move to the North Central league.
Michael maintained the club was not having second thoughts but said it could not rule out going in another direction.
“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before we can go to Golden Rivers,” Michael said.
“We’ve got to have player numbers, volunteers, committee workers and all the rest of it in place before we would even look at going.”
