cohunaWeekly Times | COHUNA Kangas remain keen to move from the Central Murray league to the Heathcote District league, despite the shift being knocked back for next year.

The club on Monday received notice from the Heathcote District league that its clubs did not support the concept of the Kangas joining the competition next year.

Heathcote District chief executive Trevor Arnel said after meeting with the Kangas, the board took all the information back to its clubs and asked for feedback.

“The outcome is that the majority of clubs were not in favour of them joining in 2016 ... but most have kept an open mind for 2017,” Arnel said.

He said though any application to move into the league in 2017 was not a guaranteed success, the option was still available.

Cohuna Kangas president Grant Lunghusen said his club would revisit the idea with the league next year.

He also said the club would look at other options that would address its concern that its location meant it was losing players to areas south of the Central Murray league.

“We lose so many of our good kids and it’s not beneficial for our club to keep travelling in that direction,” Lunghusen said.
