bonnie doonWeekly Times | BONNIE Doon broke through to beat Milawa for the first time since it joined the Ovens and King Football League.

The Bombers romped to a 19.19 (133) to 8.5 (53) victory in Round 7 yesterday in what was a two-versus-three match.

It was Bonnie Doon’s 11th attempt to beat the Demons since it joined the competition in 2010 when the Benalla and District league was disbanded.

Seven of those previous 10 encounters resulted in triple-figure margins.

“I’ve only been at the club for four years, but I’ve been on the end of some of those drubbings from Milawa, so we turned the tables,” Bonnie Doon playing coach Daniel Godsmark said.

“We know they’re undermanned and struggling a little bit, so it’s a nice win but we know we’ve got plenty of work to go.”

The Bombers kicked seven unanswered goals in the first quarter, and Jess Cosaitis, who booted 10 goals against Greta in Round 6, added another nine to his season tally during yesterday’s game.

Kaine Herbert and Justin Colliss, who slotted five goals between them, and Brenton Campbell off the backline were also singled out by the coach.

Brenton Lloyd came off in the third quarter with a shoulder injury, but has the benefit of a general bye next weekend for interleague.

● YINNAR sacrificed a 22-point three-quarter time lead to lose yesterday’s Mid Gippsland league match to Morwell East by a point.

Who lost 10.5 (65) to 8.18 (66).

Morwell East kicked 3.17 (35) up to the final break and Jarrod Lont played a key role in the win.

● COBRAM held off Echuca United yesterday in the Murray Football League to post a 27-point win.

The Eagles closed in from a 40-point halftime deficit to two goals down at three-quarter time, but the Tigers secured a 16.9 (105) to 11.12 (78) win in Round 7.

Cobram’s Daniel Clarke booted five goals.

● MURRABIT toppled ladder-leader Wandella in Round 6 of the Golden Rivers league by 48 points yesterday.

The Blues’ Stan Ward booted six goals in a team best performance which helped Murrabit win 14.14 (98) to 7.8 (50).

Nathan Henry was the Blues’ only other multiple goal scorer with five.
