boisdale briagalongWeekly Times |The Battle of the Avon is back on with Boisdale-Briagolong’s move to East Gippsland Football Netball League ticked off by AFL Victoria today.

The Bombers’ move to the East Gippsland league was approved at the league’s annual general meeting on Wednesday night.

The move had already been rubber stamped by the Bombers’ former league, North Gippsland, AFL Gippsland and AFL East Gippsland.

Wednesday’s vote went 6-1 in favour of accepting Boisdale-Briagolong, with only the Orbost-Snowy Rovers opposed.

Football Netball East Gippsland general manager Rod Twining said he informed AFL Victoria of the result Wednesday night.

With the move confirmed Twining said the Bombers were scheduled to play traditional rival Stratford, the league’s reigning premier, in round one.

The Swans joined the East Gippsland league in 2012.

Boisdale-Briagolong president Mark Landy said the players were looking forward to the move and it would be good for supporters to try get some success again.

The Bombers won four games the past two seasons combined in the North Gippsland league and finished bottom of the ladder both times.

The rivalry clash will be the debut outing for new playing coach Matt Lee.

“We don’t know what to expect yet haven’t played them for a few years it will be good thought hopefully get a good crowd,” Landy said.
