donaldWeekly Times | LUKE  Fisher launched a whole new chapter of his football career with a move to Horsham for work this year.

The reigning Central Highlands Football League medallist was approached last year to coach the North Central league’s stragglers Donald while he was living in Ballarat.

When he and his partner, Ronnie, both locked in teaching jobs in Horsham, the rest fell into place very quickly.

“I probably didn’t expect to coach this early in my career, but when the opportunity is there, I just thought why not have a crack and see if I enjoy it, and so far it’s been great,” Fisher said.

Fisher, who also has a Mininera and District league medal, has recruited former Ballarat Swans teammates Chris Prockter and Nick Garner as playing assistant coaches.

Josh Reichman, who Fisher played with at Ballarat and Nightcliff in the NTFL, has returned from Noosa and joined the fold, and local boy and key position player Nathan Dunstan has returned after lining up with North Ballarat City last season.

Donald did not post a win last year but Fisher said the playing group was so positive, outsiders wouldn’t know.

“The club’s still run really well, the people here are just young kids coming through,” he said.

“But this year they’re a year older, 20 games more experienced and with the guys we’ve added, I hope that helps them as well.”

The North Central league starts on Saturday, but Donald has a bye. Its first game is against Wycheproof-Narraport next week.
