Thorpdale FCWeekly Times | THORPDALE snapped an 18-year hoodoo on Anzac Day by beating fellow Mid Gippsland league rival Trafalgar for the first time since Round 1, 1998.

Thorpdale’s playing assistant coach Rhys Gieschen said it was a relief to break the long-running streak after the club came close with 13-point and 19-point losses last season.

“There were blokes who played on the weekend who have been with the club for 300 games and haven’t had a win, home or away, against them,” he said. “It was nice to get one back.”

Gieschen said the prospect of shattering the streak was used to motivate the players in the team’s pre-match address.

The historic win, 7.10 (52) to 4.7 (31), marks only the fourth occasion in league history that Thorpdale had defeated Trafalgar on away soil.
