Weekly Times | AFL Victoria is preparing to take its proposed equalisation measures to its leagues and clubs.
A points system, to encourage junior development and dissuade heavy recruiting, and a statewide salary cap are being developed in response to community football issues linked to high payments for players.
AFL Barwon region general manager Lee Hartman, a member of the panel developing the structures, confirmed it was still aiming for implementation next year after assessing trials and feedback this season.
Hartman also confirmed the salary cap, which would work in conjunction with the points system, was also ready to be trialled.
“There are differences in each region, like different level of salary caps — Melbourne metro compared to country, and major leagues and district leagues — and there are provisions for different points based on demographics and geography,” he said.
“It’s quite complex on how it all works, but the principle is the same across the state.”
