Border Walwa FCWeekly Times |BORDER Walwa might have savoured its Round 1 win in 2012 if it had known how long it would be between drinks.

The Magpies snapped their losing streak on Saturday in the Upper Murray Football League with a 35-point win against Corryong.

Border Walwa's seniors had trudged back into the clubrooms 47 times without singing its song since it kicked off its 2012 campaign with a one-point victory against Federal.

The Magpies came painfully close to ending the drought in Round 1 this season, losing to Federal by a goal, before finally clearing the hurdle against the Demons.

Border Walwa president Lou Coutts said the players had revelled in the win.

She paid tribute to second-year coach Tony Brennan, football manager Simon Greenhill and recruit Dan McCarthy, who kicked five goals on Saturday, for their efforts in turning the tables.

"You've got to recognise (the win) and we've got the hoodoo off our back, but it's just one game, so we're looking to the rest of the season," she said.

Coutts was also aware of how quickly the wheel of fortune turns in country football.

In 2012, Corryong ended its own 31-game losing streak in Round 5 against Border Walwa — the Demons' previous win was Round 3, 2010 — and it played off in the grand final against Cudgewa last year.
