Weekly Times | THE Ovens and King league is making a happy knack of comeback interleague wins.
The interleague side was 37 points down at three-quarter time with only four goals to its name against the Hume league at Jindera on Saturday.
Ovens and King kicked eight goals to one in the last quarter to win by a goal.
The match was part of the North East interleague schedule, outside of the WorkSafe Country Championships rankings.
Ovens and King’s resurrection followed last year’s effort in overturning a four-goal deficit to cruise to a 30-point win over Farrer.
Finton Eames, in his fourth year as Ovens and King coach, said it was “exciting” to flip the script in such dramatic fashion.
Eames credited the determination his players showed in the last quarter for scoring the victory.
“It was a massive challenge ... but our 22 blokes just had a crack,” he said.
Eames said he intended to coach on again next year. He had some interest in fielding a team in the main draw next year, but was also content to stay put in the six-league North East competition.
