Weekly Wrap 22Weekly Wrap | What another amazing round of country footy finals we had this week, with all leagues now involved in finals and 6 new premiers crowned.

Powelltown FNC in the Outer East Division 2 are the premiership story of the week, with an exciting 10 point win, 12.19 91 to Kinglake FNC’s 12.9 81. This breaks a 39 year premiership drought for Powelltown and it’s only their second ever premiership win since the club was formed in 1922. A fitting way to celebrate 100 years.

This upcoming weekend sees a ‘Super Saturday’ across country footy in Victoria with 17 Grand Finals to be played.

In other finals played, we had a second week where extra time was required, however it actually required two periods of extra time to find a winner. In the West Gippsland FNL Preliminary Final, Phillip Island FNC overcame the Warragul Industrials FNC in the 2nd period of extra-time with an after the siren goal for an amazing 2 point win. The final scores were Phillip Island FNC 7.12 54 to Warragul Industrials FNC 7.10 52. Phillip Island FNC will now play Tooradin-Dalmore FNC, who they defeated in Round 16, in next weeks Grand Final.

In the Central Highlands FNL a kick after the siren also decided the winner in their Preliminary Final with Springbank’s Zak Bozanich kicking one of his 5 goals for the day to seal the heart stopping win. The final scores were Springbank FNC 11.6 72 defeating Hepburn FNC 8.18 66. The Grand Final next week will see Springbank FNC take on Gordon FNC. Both teams met in the Qualifying FInal with Gordon FNC winning in a close one by 12 points.

A third Preliminary final went down to a kick after the siren to determine the result. This time however the kick from Kolora-Noorat FNC was not successful allowing Panmure FNC a 2 point win and progression through to the Grand Final where they will meet Nirranda FNC. The final score in this thriller was Panmure FNC 13.13 91 to Kolora-Noorat FNC 14.5 89.

After the drama of last week's Ovens & King FNL ‘s 1st Semi Final having to be rescheduled due to the serious injury sustained by Greta FNC Reserve player Ben Duffield, the match took place this weekend. Unfortunately for Greta FNC they were outclassed by Bonnie Doon FNC losing by 47 points. The positive is that while there is a way to go yet, Duffield is recovering well from the traumatic experience of last week.

And finally, Quambatook FNC who announced at the start of the season they would be going into recess at season end, were unable to complete a fairy tale ending this weekend. The Saints lost their Golden Rivers FNL Preliminary Final going down by just 7 points to Moulamein FNC who have now advanced to play Nullawil FNC in the Grand Final next week.
