Drysdale wouldn't settle for anything less than a win after its one-goal loss to Queenscliff earlier in the year and avenged its close defeat with a 50-46 victory on Saturday.

Drysdale coach Olivia Wilson was happy with the win, but admitted it didn't come easy against quality opposition.

"The girls did all right in patches; we started out quite well and then faded in the second half of the first quarter and chased the whole day, then just pegged it back."

Goal shooter Jessica Maddock's 100 per cent accuracy in the fourth quarter encouraged the side to lift and take every opportunity to gain the lead.

Fellow goaler Millie Leahy and defender Ashley Conner worked hard at their respective ends to help secure the win and Drysdale hopes to hold on to that winning feeling as it faces Newcomb next week.

"We're definitely looking for another win there, we're going to work on things at training and keep the wins going hopefully," Wilson said.

Queenscliff coach Jamie Ryan was disappointed her side let the lead slip so late.

"We led all the way up until three-quarter time, then it was like a freight train in the last quarter," Ryan said. "I thought we played tall today ... and it was a great team effort, which was good, but we couldn't pull off the win."

Ella Saunders applied pressure on Drysdale's dominant wing attack, while captain Rochelle Godfrey led the girls through the centre court offering constructive instruction all day.

Defender Sarah Jenson had an enormous task against Jessica Maddock but, while she lacked height, played to Ryan's advice and looked tall.

Despite work on defence and devising strategies to counter Drysdale's strong attacking line-up, Ryan said her girls responded by reading the play.

"We put a lot of pressure ... in the mid-court and on the outside of the ring and that paid dividends for us today."

Next week Queenscliff faces Torquay and has already begun preparing.

"It's always a hard battle, they're a very strong side again this year. We've put strategies in place a couple of weeks ago actually to defend their zones, so I'll say we're ready for them, but how it plays out on the day is another story," Ryan said.
