Geelong Times | Finals fever is sweeping through Winchelsea, with the club’s A-grade netball and two senior football sides still alive in Geelong District Football Netball League’s finals series.

For the first time in club history, all three sides reached the finals, with the senior footballers taking on East Geelong for a grand final spot on Saturday before the reserves and A-grade netballers play in semi-finals on Sunday at St Albans Reserve.

The A-grade Blues progressed after an 11-point elimination final win over Thomson last weekend, and will now face Bannockburn to keep their season alive.

Captain Meg Royal, who is in her 15th season at the club, said having full availability for the first time this season propelled the group to victory.

“We haven’t played with everyone throughout the whole year due to injuries and unavailability,” she said.

“To have everyone there together on the day, it was really exciting to see our game plan come to fruition.

”While the netball program at Winchelsea has played in finals regularly in recent years, Royal said having the footballers simultaneously involved this year after a long absence has brought the club closer together."
