It was most unsuitable weather for netball when Seymour had its first hit out for 2013 at Kings Park on Saturday.
The Lions took on Riddells Creek in all four grades in hot, humid conditions.
A new-look A-grade side got jumped early by the visitors but held its own in the second half to go down 47-32.
Coach Ash Chapman said it was good to blow the cobwebs out after just one two-hour training session.
‘‘We’ve identified what we need to work on,’’ he said.
‘‘We made adjustments as the game went on. In the first half we were chasing tail a bit and weren’t being assertive but to have that second half result was a confidence booster for (the team).’’
The game marked the debut in Seymour colours of centre Sarah Douglas, last season’s Riddell league best-and-fairest and sister of Lions footballer Robbie. Chapman coached her at Broadford and said she would be a ‘‘handy pick up’’ for the side.
Douglas also picked up several intercepts during the game.

B-grade won 22-16, B-reserve 18-10 and the under-17 side had the biggest win of the day, 50-4 against the visitors under-16 team.
