The Courier | DUNNSTOWN has claimed the prized scalp of reigning premier Skipton in the Central Highlands Netball League A-grade competition.
The Towners put in an impressive display against the previous ladder leaders on Sunday, winning 53-48 in trying conditions at home.
Eleanor Costello was in scintillating form under the ring, converting 36 goals from 41 attempts as goal shooter, while Johanna Dash was dominant throughout the mid-court.
The result leaves Dunnstown at 2-1 to start the season, which has included games against both of last year’s grand finalists.
“It’s very promising for the year ahead ... we would definitely take our start to the season if someone had said that at the start of the year,” coach Kelli Aggett said.
“It was totally unexpected against Skipton. We entered the game with positive thoughts, but winning was just a bonus.”
In other matches for the weekend, last year’s grand finalist Hepburn finally opened its account after a tough start to the season.
The Burras comfortably knocked off rival Daylesford, winning 62-35 to notch up its first win, following a draw and a loss to begin the season.
Ballan shot to the top of the ladder with a comprehensive display over Gordon, winning by 35 goals to remain undefeated after the first three rounds.
Clunes also continued to show some form after a lacklustre season 2014. The Magpies snuck home by four goals against Bungaree to notch up their first win of the year, having drawn with Hepburn in round one and gone down narrowly to Creswick last week.
Elsewhere, Beaufort beat Newlyn by 14 goals, Springbank remained undefeated by toppling Buninyong, Learmonth defeated Creswick, Waubra overcame Smythesdale, and Rokewood-Corindhap accounted for Cargnham-Linton.
