Bendigo Advertiser |STRONG defensive actions will be a key in Strathfieldsaye's plans to upset Kangaroo Flat in the Bendigo Football Netball League's A-grade netball match on Saturday.
Storm played brilliant netball to win their latest hit-out at Kyneton by 18 goals.
Strathfieldsaye coach Maleta Roberts said defensive pressure in all thirds of the court forced a lot of turnovers.
Roberts said the third-placed Kangaroo Flat would provide a great test as Storm strives to climb from the fifth rung.
"I believe our defensive pressure will need to improve that one step further," Roberts said.
"Doing the basics well and backing every pass and mistake, if any, will be important.
"Kangaroo Flat is a great team, so it will be tough," she said of playing on the Roos' court at Bendigo Mazda Oval in Dower Park.
Although the line-up has changed since last September, Kangaroo Flat has several premiership-winning players on court.
Storm's best in the win at Kyneton included Bianca Jones and Brianna Dalrymple-Monro.
"They forced a lot of turnovers which allowed us more opportunities to the post," Roberts said.
Areas Storm has worked at include goal shooting, defence and multiple leads.
The coach said there had been a lot of contributors in achieving a 4-2 record.
"We have had a few injuries, so the girls have been helping out across A-grade and A-reserve. Some have played different roles."
Roberts said Storm's recruits had improved every game.
"A stand-out is Kate Burton at goal defence or goal keeper. Kate is a great player, has an excellent work ethic and a definite leader on and off the court."
