Murray FLThe 2013 Murray Football League season kicks off this week and a number of close rivals clash. In front of big Easter crowds, there should be some very entertaining games. Clubs have been very busy on the recruiting front, while there have also been some major departures. Finley, Echuca United and Mulwala appear to again be major contenders this season.

A lot happier — that was new Seymour football coach Shane Robertson with his troops after the Lions’ second and, a little unexpectedly, last practice game on Saturday.

Seymour was always in control against Bendigo league side Gisborne at Kings Park, running out 14.10 (94) to 10.12 (72) winners in a five-quarter game.

You know it isn’t football season when the scoreboard shows the temperature is 36.2° after the game has ended, but despite all appearances it isn’t far away.

And Seymour had its first hitout for the year when it hosted Wangaratta Rovers in a practice game at Kings Park on Saturday.

There was a carnival atmosphere thanks to the preparations for the Military Heritage Weekend, but it wasn’t extended on the field by the visitors.
