Weekly Times | WODONGA Raiders triumphed in what is believed to be the biggest last quarter comeback in Ovens and Murray league history on Saturday.
It looked like curtains for the Raiders, after three quick goals from powerhouse Yarrawonga extended the margin out to 41 points early in the final term.
But they surged home with seven unanswered goals to post a three-point win.
The Raiders hit the lead with less than a minute left after a goal from small forward Yarran Jaffer-Williams.
Raiders coach Daryn Cresswell said the scenes took him back to his days with AFL club Sydney.
“I was on the other end of one (comeback) in 1994, when ‘Plugger’ (Tony Lockett) was at St Kilda, we were 48 points up and they came back and beat us,” he said.
“So to be on the other it of it was really good.”
The win sees the Raiders leapfrog Yarrawonga to fourth.
The Pigeons were without co-coach Brendan Fevola, who appeared for Eastern Football League club Donvale on Saturday. Meanwhile, North Albury assistant Craig Mannagh will take charge for three weeks while coach Jason Akermanis is on an overseas holiday.
