ALMOST 15 per cent of senior country football matches were decided by more than 100 points at the weekend.
A whopping 31 of the 213 games played on Saturday and Sunday were non-competitive, with the result obvious just minutes after the opening bounce.
Two matches were decided by more than 200 points — Drysdale mauled Newcomb Power by 251 points in the Bellarine league and Kerang demolished Tyntynder by 216 points in the Central Murray league.
Four of six matches in the Ovens and King league, which shed two teams over summer in a bid to level out the lopsided competition, ended in 100-point-plus floggings.
Twelve of the blowouts were in traditional “major” leagues, including two in the Bendigo and Gippsland leagues.
In the Picola and District league’s North West division, second-last Mathoura beat last-placed Deniliquin Rovers by 106 points.
In the same league, third-placed Strathmerton demolished second-placed Berrigan by 117 points.
Beulah’s 113-point triumph over Jeparit-Rainbow in the Mallee league increased its ladder percentage to 354.95 — the highest in country Victoria.
At the other end of the scale, Central Highlands league battler Smythesdale has the lowest percentage, 1.77, after its 164-point loss to Daylesford on Saturday.
AFL Victoria did not wish to comment on the lopsided results.
