yarrawongaBorder Mail | YARRAWONGA champion Brendan Fevola will sever ties with the Ovens and Murray club at the end of the season.

Fevola, who has kicked 337 goals in 62 matches with the Pigeons, plans to return to Melbourne to be closer to his family.

"Memory wise I will always have Yarra in my heart," Fevola said on Wednesday.

"I have the club tattooed on my body.

"The last 3-½ years have been special.

"It's an amazing town with the most amazing people.

"It will be a sad time when I play my last game for the club."

Fevola, 34, will return from an ankle injury for Yarrawonga's elimination final against North Albury or Wodonga Raiders on September 6.

The Coleman medallist is unsure whether he will play next year.

"I have had a few people enquire about next season but I'll move back to Melbourne and see how I go," he said.

"Family is the main thing.

"I don't know if I'll play yet ... I'm getting old.

"At the moment I'm a bit too far away from the kids and I need to get back to Melbourne to help Alex out more."

Western Region Football League club Deer Park is among a host of clubs who have expressed interest in Fevola.

Fevola was first contacted by Yarrawonga through bookmaker Matt Tripp in late 2011 and helped attract crowds of up to 10,000 in his first season at J.C. Lowe Oval.

He played in the Pigeons 2012 and 2013 premierships.

"I didn't know where Yarrawonga was until four years ago when Matty Tripp called," he said.

"It all stemmed from 'Trippy' and Wally (Glenn) Brear playing golf one day and talking about how Yarra could try and beat Albury.

"Three days later I was signed up.

"It's a pretty special place.

"You don't realise how special things are until you leave but hopefully we have a few games left in us yet."
