SETANTA O’hAilpin booted the biggest bag of Ovens and Murray goals in a decade when he kicked 13 for Albury on Saturday.
The former AFL player put on a clinic at Myrtleford’s McNamara Reserve as the Tigers put the Saints to the sword by 122 points.
The big Irishman got off to a flyer and didn’t let up, slotting them from everywhere.
“And he probably could have had more,” Albury co-coach Daniel Maher said.
“He plays on sometimes when he probably shouldn’t and can do things that make you want to pull your hair out but it’s great when it comes off.
“He took some really good marks and the delivery was quick and clean.
“He’s starting to get a bit of continuity and we had the luxury of being able to play him deep forward all game.”
Wangaratta’s Damien Lang was the last person to kick 13 or more goals in a senior O and M match, according to league records.
He did it in 2004.
Saturday’s bag saw O’hAilpin soar up the goalkicking charts.
The former Carlton and Greater Western Sydney utility has 24 goals for the season.
Yarrawonga superstar Brendan Fevola leads the way with 36.
He kicked four in the Pigeons’ 40-point win over Wangaratta Rovers.
Fevola, who has booted 228 goals since joining the competition, will coach the Ovens and Murray against the Hampden league this weekend.
O’hAilpin is unavailable for the game.
But in a plus, Albury star Dean Polo is likely to make himself available after racking up more than 40 touches for the Tigers on Saturday.
Saturday’s clash at Wangaratta’s Norm Minns Oval starts at 3pm, with all profits made at the gate being donated to James McQuillan’s future fund.
The Albury youngster is still recovering in hospital after suffering spinal injuries in the first game of the season.
