FOUR quarters of high quality netball and a versatile mid court made all the difference for St Mary's in the 51-36 win over Lara on Saturday.
"I was really happy with today," St Mary's coach Simone Seagrave said. "I suppose we've had a few weeks where we've been a bit inconsistent throughout the game and we've sort of played half games and three quarters, and so that was our big thing coming into today, to make sure that we played a full game out and take each 15 minutes as it comes.
St Mary's started cautiously but took control of the game as captain Renee Garing moved the ball swiftly through the centre court to goaler Elley Heard.
"Our attack end, I thought, it started off a little bit hesitant but to the girls' credit they did change the way they played. They worked out that we needed to give two options and actually to give and release it and have confidence in each other," Seagrave said.
Defender Jessica Griffin dominated, inspiring her team to increase defensive pressure across all thirds and making it difficult for the young Lara side to capitalise on opportunity.
Lara coach Trish Plummer credited St Mary's defensive pressure and said her side struggled under the goal ring.
